Once the grade 6 Learners have done the examination, they will proceed to junior secondary school. They will be in grade 7 come next year. In the CBC curriculum, junior secondary is made of grade 7,8 and 9 while senior secondary is made of grade 10,11 and 12.The first pioneer CBC class proceeded to grade 7 this year.
However, being a new curriculum, it has faced quite a myriad of challenges. The number of teachers sent to junior secondary school is below the expected numbers.Due to that, learning has been affected so much. The teachers sent to these schools have been forced to teach learning areas that they were not trained for.
In Junior Secondary, there are 14 learning areas and only one teacher was sent to these schools. In addition, the textbooks took so long to be sent to schools. Almost one month after term one began, textbooks had not been sent. This derailed learning.
Teachers were forced to be innovative by looking for notes online to be able to assist the learners. However, the challenges are reducing as days goes by as the government is trying it’s best to ensure implementation of the curriculum is done fully.
