Overview Of New 2021-2025 CBA Teacher Payslip. The Teachers service commission is the only commission in Kenya in charge of employing teachers. A graduate teacher, upon being employed by TSC starts at job group K, now referred to as C2.
The teacher is referred to as Secondary Teacher II and are employed to teach in secondary schools.
As per the TSC terms and conditions of employment, once the teacher is recruited, they stay under probation for a period of 6 months.
However, the probationary period may be extended by the commission if the commission is not satisfied with the kind of job the recruit has done.
Once the probationary period is over, the teacher will now be confirmed by the commission under permanent and pensionable terms. This teacher will be getting their salaries every month and will be eligible for pension.
Other than earning salary every month, the teacher is also entitled to a number of allowances that are reflected in his or her payslip. The typical payslip of the graduate teachers looks like this;
- House allowance of Sh7,500
- Medical allowance varies.
- Commuter Allowances of Sh5,000
- Hardship allowances varies
- Leave allowances varies

All the above stated allowances are automatic. However, some allowances are dependent of the location where the teacher works. It should also be noted that allowances for teachers vary depending on the job group.
ADDITIONAL ALLOWANCES TEACHERS CAN APPLY FOR
Other than the above stated allowances, teachers are also eligible to apply for a number of allowances. These allowances are paid upon application for.
The allowances are as below stated;
- Responsibility allowance
- Special duty allowance
- Interpreter’s allowance,
- Transfer allowance,
- Reader’s allowance
However, the amounts paid for these allowances vary. They vary with the job group as those teachers in higher job groups get more as compared to those in smaller job groups.
DEDUCTIONS FROM THE PAYSLIP
Among the deductions from a teacher’s payslip include;
~NHIF among others
Once all deductions are done, the typical pay slip will remain with around 38000 kenyan shillings.
PROMOTION FROM C2 TO C3
Upon completion of 3 years in job group C2, the teacher is automatically promoted to job group C3.
It is important to note that if one had taken a HELB loan, there will be deductions every month to repay the amounts.
