This idea will now put to rest the teachers fears missing out on their salary increments. This is because teachers were meant to understand that the 2021-2025 Collective bargaining Agreement was yet to be finalized and agreed on fully.
However, the salaries and remuneration commission chair Lynn Mengich has had her say regarding the teachers’ salary increments. She confirmed that the commission is studying keenly the salary proposals by the Teachers Service Commission. She said once all that is done, she will come up with final recommendations on the issue.
The proposals indicate that TSC is asking for a basic salary increment ranging between 16 and 32 percent . In this percentage and proposals, classroom teachers are tipped to be the biggest beneficiaries with higher perks.
If the proposals are adopted by the salaries and remuneration commission, this is how teachers are set to reap big;
- 16 percent pay rise will be meant for only teachers in administrative positions, between grade (C4 to D5) who initially reaped big under the 2016-2021 CBA.
- All classroom teachers in lower job grades between grades (B5 to C3) are to enjoy a salary increment of up to 30 percent

The salaries and remuneration commission chair indicated that the final recommendations regarding teachers salary increment proposals will be made public before July this year. She asked teachers to be patient and wait on the final submissions from the commission after fully internalizing on the issue.
Once the final recommendations are out, the SRC advisory will now be tasked with working out the new salary scales for tutors in Kenya.
