TSC CEO Dr. Nancy Macharia To Retire Early. Dr. Nancy Macharia the TSC CEO could be on her way out of office anytime soon. However, it is not yet clear on the specific date she will exit as per the set rules contained in the public service.
Initially, the CEO was supposed to retire way back in June 2020. However, the commission saw it better to extend her contract for a further five years that now runs till 2025.
In contrast to that, her position now lies in the balance. This is after the a circular that was released back in February by Aisha Jumwa, the public service cabinet secretary. As per the contents of that circular, her fate as the TSC boss lies in the balance.
The circular warned relevant authorities not to extend contracts of public servants who had already attained the mandatory retirement age.
It is a point of concern as a number of institutions have of late opted to extend contracts of public officers who have attained the retirement age. This is a violation of the constitution and the employment act. The cabinet secretary went further to remind the public service commission of the stipulated retirement age. She indicated that the mandatory retirement age is 60 years for all civil servants and 65 for those living with disabilities.

This issue prompted the CS to suspend and cancel all pending requests regarding extension of service of officers who had attained the retirement age. She went further and revoked all existing cases .
The vocal cabinet secretary said that in an event the issue is brought up for discussion, the issues will be well sorted. As a result, it will give a proper succession management in the public service.
Extension of retirement age
Initially, civil servants used to retire at the age of 55. However, in April 2009, a review was done and the retirement age limit extended to 60. By November 2020, the public service commission had declined numerous requests by a number of public servants asking for an extension of service to the age of 65 years.
In regards to this new directives, it has not yet been stipulated clearly whether the CEO will vacate office as she is past the age of 60. This issue has raised eyebrows among all and sundry who are in a dilemma about the issue. She may or may not complete her extended term till 2025. However, there is a possibility of vacating office soon. Let’s wait and see how things shall unfold
