TSC Promotion Interview Requirements. Following the signing of the KSh 54 billion Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) 2017–2021 between the teachers’ unions and the teachers employer, TSC, the new grading system for teachers in primary and secondary schools is now in place.
The aforementioned modifications were made in accordance with the stringent requirements outlined in the career progression guidelines (CPG) adjustments, which the Commission uses to assess teachers and facilitate their advancement to higher job cadres.
The CPG guidelines state that Grade B5, which is the entry level for Primary Teacher II, is only open to primary school instructors.On the T-scale, the recently hired primary school teachers are positioned at level B5.
Then a primary school teacher at the B5 level is promoted to C1 after a period of three years of service. This is automatic without the need for additional coursework or interviews as per yo the CPG guidelines.
Secondly, the progression from C1 to C2,which denotes Senior Teacher I in primary schools as per to the CPG is not automatically guaranteed.
Depending on the availability of positions, those teachers aspiring to move from C1 to C2 must fulfill certain requirements. These include working in the C1 position for at least three years. They must also submit online applications during relevant TSC advertisements as well as possessing the necessary qualifications like holding a diploma.

On the other hand, the CPG provides that for those in C1 and hard-to-staff areas, their promotions may involve affirmative action during interviews.
Under this circumstances, the Grade C1 is the minimum requirement for becoming a Diploma teacher at a secondary school.
After three years of employment, C1 level teachers are promoted to Grade C2, where they instruct secondary school pupils as Secondary Teachers II.
Last but not least, following three years of service, all C2 teachers with degrees are immediately promoted to Grade C3. No more tests or interviews are required for this.
