TSC Recruitment And Promotion Of Teachers. Teachers Service Commission will promote more than 36,000 teachers this year, TSC CEO Nancy Macharia has said.
She said that the commission will also employ 20,000 teachers in the next financial year.
Macharia was speaking at Moi Girls Eldoret in Eldoret during the release of the 2023 KCSE results on Monday.
“As a commission, we continue reviewing our systems and starving levels at both primary and post-primary levels to ensure that teachers are equitably distributed in institutions across the country as we prepare our students to sit the final exams,” Macharia said.
“We take note that the implementation of the Competence Based Curriculum (CBC) in our primary and junior schools has shaken up the staffing levels.”
The commission CEO also said the number of classes in primary school level has reduced by two.

Consequently, she said the teacher requirement for primary schools has also reduced significantly leading to an excess of 18,194 staff.
“The commission will distribute teachers to schools to ensure all institutions are balanced.The additional one class in the 2024 Grade 8 has created a staffing shortage of 117 at this level,” she said.
Macharia noted that the number of teachers required this year in junior school is 99,045 against the current number that is 56,928.
She said the government will fund the commission in the recruitment of the teachers until optimum levels are achieved.
It is for this that she said in the next financial year, TSC has requested for funds for an additional 20,000 teachers.
“In recognition of the good work by our teachers, the commission has been funded is in the process of promoting 36,505 teachers to the different grades. Of this vacancies, 17,914 will be filled by primary school teachers while 18,591 belong to post primary,” Macharia said.
On the other hand, it was announced that the registration for KEPSEA and KCSE 2024 candidates will take two months.
The Kenya National Examinations Council CEO David Njeng’ere said that the exercise will start on January 29 and end on March 2024.
“The registration of 2024 KPSEA and KCSE candidates to begin on the 29th of January to the 29th of March,” he said.
Njeng’ere appealed to school principals to ensure that all eligible candidates are registered within the period.
“Please note that there will be no late registration after the two months,” he said.
